The #YesWeCode Alumni Network is a volunteer-driven networking organization developed to foster alliances and mentorship between technologists of color and like-minded allies and professionals in the tech industry. In addition to providing job-seekers an opportunity to connect with established professionals, our staff leads career navigation workshops designed to build and strengthen soft-skills needed to land a job and succeed (such as interview & resume prep, networking, mentor/mentee relationships, etc.).
At #YesWeCode, we recognize that the referral culture is a barrier to entry for many non-traditional POC technologists and entrenches the presence of dominant demographic groups. But, we also view it as an opportunity. Instead of changing one of the primary drivers of how technology companies identify and recruit employees, we are seeking to use it as a tool for our scholars and other non-traditional POC technologists to enter the tech sector by providing the vehicle for them to build alliances with like-minded professionals and allies in the tech industry.
